Heard on BBC South News this morning that 'Four yachts on Poole Quay were badly damaged by cargo ship berthing'.

Anyone know anything else, hope there was no one from here or Scutty.

Have always thought it looked dodgy these monsters manoeuvring opposite the quay, especially when there are 5 or 6 deep rafts. I've always thought, 'Oh well, they know what they doing'. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm..............

Good idea - lets set a date! Which weekend are the tides suitable, and when does the Poole speed limits cease?

either begining or end of October - think it's the begining through to the end of March - ie Winter season.

Suggest we avoid the hhalf term at teh end of October though and go for a set of neaps in early November?

Re: Annual Wareham meet

sounds good to me. Anyone else have a view, or shall we just go ahead and set a date?
PS just checked on speed limits, between 1st October and 30th April each year

Surely with half decent weather forecast for the next 4 weeks or so, according to a few longrange forecasts, would it not be better to hold it towards the end of sept or early october. Being a predominately outdoor based piss up it would be better to have bearable weather rather than peeing down a freezing cold.......no?

Yes.

How about 2/3 October. I know the tides are springy that weekend but with 1st & 2 nd HW at 11:50 and 15:36 on the Sat, it makes it better for going up the Frome.

The following w/e is neaps but low water is12:29 at Poole. In my experience going up the Frome at low water, even neaps, can be tricky.

Not looked at the tide tables but going by those times there'll be enough water for most of the day. Going up the river is ok at low water, but the areas to watch is the bit by the cliff at Redcliff which has a couple of really shallow bits. The yacht club have put a couple of leading marks on the bend to get round these. Also theres a really shallow bit by the Priory Hotel. Further down stream theres a shallow bit on the bend by Ridge Wharf, but thats been bouyed off.

Came up at low water last w/e. In the Wareham channel the sounder was showing just 60cms just passed the lit piles and a really shallow bit where the channel turns into the river. Once in the river itself we had a min of 1mtr up to Ridge Wharf. I only touched in the Channel twice. With no power trim it made things interesting!

That's why I prefer to get up da river nearer to HW, can do without 'interesting' in that way. Got a few nicks in the prop from Redcliff & the Priory.

So is 2/3rd Oct a definite maybe, then?

hiya, just remembered.... sent you a text... or maybe another "col"...doh!

ref: vicy's call. thanks for the offer, but alas i was working. oct 2/3 sound cool to me. you up for it?

not much changed here.. still now with the dispute settled ..(or is it????) i can start planning once again to get things done. fast monarch is still suffering from neglect, all "non essential" work ceased due to severe lack of money... so it looks like i have a lot of catching up to do for next season.

hope you can make the weekend, it'd be great to see ya again.

regards, steve.
