Kim, am I right in thinking that you took part in the 96 poole to cherbourg dash(in the buzzi with my good friends mr pascoe, sewel & co)? if so we have met, I thought I knew the name but couldn't place it, until today.
I took part too, in the 26' Extreme "team extreme" came a dissapointing 3rd behind the Velocity 32 after losing 'one' rocca speed rail about a third of the way accross! had to run with the port tab right down after that to keep it level.

Anyway, what happened to those fun events, it all seems as dull as dishwater these days! (exept the poker runs)

Regards, Jon Fuller

Hi Jon

Yes, you are right. The memory of Poole to Cherbourg in 52 minutes plus a bit of small change is still fresh; especially the bit where we took off courtesy of a ferry wake. Was also pretty amazed to see the buoy inside Cherbourg West entrance only about three minutes (it seemed) from blasting away from the Dorset coast.

I actually managed to take a few pics that day although I'm not sure where they are now.

Agree, a great giggle. Even funnier when I discovered that the twin-engine photo/chase plane we chartered that day had been plotted on radar by the French; they sent a King Air up to shadow it, which duly noted it doing suspicious circles in the middle of the Channel. The plane was ransacked in Cherbourg although the crew escaped the rubber glove treatment.

I later returned on the plane (just to make my day the pilot let me try my hand at flying it for most of the return crossing); was back home by 6pm!

Why oh why am I sat in the office /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Kim,
Yeah, If I remember rightly the techno had just been round britain or something, and pascoe borrowed it from Fabio for the event, didn't fabio's truck pick it up from cherbourg, now that's white gloving it!
Have you done any poker runs?

Only ever been involved in helping organise them and driving target boats.

Never done one in the US, which is supposed to be - well, as you would expect of an American poker run.

Not sure if they are doing a poker run but the weekend that MBM runs with the Royal Southern YC is usually in the Poole Cherbourg mould...albeit it stays inside the Solent (but is therefore never very far away from decent meal stops).
