It's official, Poole Boat Park is closing in September, to make way for the new bridge!

It's been confirmed by the Boat Park themselves now.
A complete disaster, we were hoping for a stay of execution. A totally illconceived project, terrible for people in Cobbs as well, with two bridges opening in tandem, and a wholly inadequate holding area between them. Can't think of another harbour in the world where marine traffic has negotiate two bridges like this.
Anyone berthing in Cobbs would be advised to get out now, before the rush gets too big.

Lake Yard put in an extra row of moorings this year south of the channel...... wonder if PHC are allowing others to do the same in anticipation.
<edit> noticed too that PYC seem to have a few extra too, extending into the channel, so maybe I've answered my own question.

Yep.... been there about 7 years now, ever since Lilliput Yacht Station closed down.
We don't use the club though. When we first went there the membership was free to mooring holders, but then they started charging for it, so.........

yards yes - moorings no; dry storage and trot moorings are as far apart as you can get on the overall scale of 'where to keep the boat'
(well on the drive is further I suppose but you get the point!)

Happy memories, my first boat - a Chaparral - I had it dry stacked there.

I recently did a summer season working for Poole Boat Park on Sundays and often had people calling up seeking to hire a canoe !!
Beats me - 2 weeks ago Poole Tourism held its Poole Afloat weekend to promote boating in Poole and now we have the "suits" closing Poole Boat Park down.
George. Ollie and the staff have had this sword of Damocles hanging over them for the last 2 years yet have continued to offer a first class service. Efforts have been made to find an alternative site but so far there is nothing on the radar screen.
Yes. there are other places in Poole where we can keep our boats and I am sure that they all offer a good services- but it pisses me off to see the small business man walked all over and having his livehood taken away from him.

Nah, Cobbs not my preferred option, the bridges are just one issue. Want to stay dry berthing.
May even end up with you, or poss. Southampton. None of the options as good as PBP, but not much choice.

The following extract from the Inspector's report referred earlier in this post is perhaps indicative .
7.2.5.3 I turn therefore to the businesses located within the exchange basin, and first to Poole Boat Park [5.3.2 to 5.3.7]. I recognise with a degree of sympathy the impact which the demise of this business would have on both its owner, Mr Pittock, and its customers. However, the Boat Park has been operating under a short-term lease which expires in 2007, and contains a break clause for redevelopment in 2006. Part of the site occupied by the Boat Park is required for the bridge and its construction, and the freehold owners of the site have indicated that they propose to redevelop the remainder of the site as part of the regeneration scheme [6.2.15]. It does not seem to me that it is the responsibility of the Council to find alternative premises for either the Boat Park or indeed for any other commercial enterprise, though I recognise the efforts made by the Council in this respect [6.2.15 and 6.7.4].
