Well we have decided to have a week around Poole, Swanage etc End July begining Aug. So where is the best place to launch and call home for the week??

Redcliffe - Freshish water for the trailer, but a long hike down to the harbour, but close to Wareham
Cobbs - Nice pontoon facilities but expensive ???
Rockley - Err - dunno much about it apart from a massive caravan park and a wide slipway.
P.H.Y.C - the less said the better /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Salterns ???
Where else ??

Not too roughish for sleeping overnight and not too far from the sea.... as they have introduced more bleeding speed limits in Poole Harbour than on the M25 or even the Welsh part of the M4....

O and I need somewhere to buy the dreaded PETROL ????

You have a whole different set of issues wrapped up in there!

The short answer is ...........Cobbs

The long answer is............
somewhere yopu can launch and that you can keep your trailer after launching including a tap / hose to wash it off &
somewhere to have your car reasonably safe but to use when you are not on the boat - these are a problem for Dolphin Haven.
You should be able to get under the bridge most of the time (I can!) so you don't have the queueing issues
It has petrol (or you can use car and save 20p/ltre)
They have some wicked BBQs in the summer weekends but most of the time you will of course be rafted up having a BBQ with BarryH, Geoffs, or a beach BBQ and 'sleep over' at Long Island.
OK it's not the most alive place on the pontoons but you have to sleep sometime.
Suggest you book early
Look forward to seeing you all again

There's a private slip and trailer park round the back of the chain ferry (Sandbanks) that we used some years ago. Easy launch and recovery, very secure, right next to the harbour entrance and with a fuel pontoon to boot. Charged us about a tenner a day to launch and leave the trailer there, and we B&B'd locally. One of the Poole crowd will know the one I mean

Shell Bay Watersports is the place your talking about. No longer a tenner to launch. They do the launching for about 25 quid and you can't leave the car/trailer on site any longer.
If it were me I'd use Rockley or Redcliffe. Cobbs is ok but a bit of and "industrial wilderness" of an out look. Rockley slip is dead easy and nice and wide, but then so is the one at Redcliffe since its twice the width it used to be. Three boats abreast can launch at once. The car and trailer can be left securely over a period of days. Both have toilets showers water and other stuff that youmight need. Launch at Redcliffe is 12 quid including parking. The last time I launched at Rockley, last christmas,it was 15 quid including the parking.

Sound like a launch at Redcliffe, 1st night at Wareham quay and then stay at Cobbs for the best part of the holiday...... back to Redcliffe for the recovery on the trailer.

I use Imray, when I actually look at them. Poole is Y23 large scale if my memory serves. Then the otherwill be Needles Channel to Portland Bill C3, I think. Most of the swindlers will have themin stock.
A good anchorage will be Studland or around the back of Broensea or even up around Arne is quiet nice and quiet. Wareham Quay is OK but don't expect to get to bed early. Redcliffe do visitors mooring as well. Probably see you there.
