...is there an east coast watering hole with a pool/billiard table or similar, to keep teenage sons entertained ? a decent walk from the boat after a sail, would be a bonus. Our modest weekend horizons extend from Aldeburgh to Blackwater.
The only one I know riverside'ish, is Coach and Horses at Melton.(!)
thanks expectantly...!

Anchor in Pyefleet and go ashore onto Mersea Island - Walk to Dog & Pheasant - can't remember if there's a pool table. Not the handiest coastal pub but if it's a walk you want...

Failing that the Ramsholt Arms on the Deben; Butt and Oyster at Pin Mill (berth at Woolverstone or Royal Harwich and walk down); Green Man at Bradwell (soon to be the glowing orange man so make the most of it now)

Again - not sure about the pool table but remembering my teenage years, beer usually provided sufficient incentive to visit a pub... that and the young ladies.

Not a decent walk from the boat but there is a table both at the Bradwell marina bar and at the highly superior Green Man pub. I find that a decent walk after a few drinks can be remakably short:D

Head in to Tollesbury and in the Clubhouse is a pool table which keeps my two lads well entertained. In the summer there is also a proper pool (for swimming in) and tennis courts if that's your thing. There's beer and food too!

You can always walk to the old church, is it St Peter's, about a 3 mile circular walk from the Marina. Each time I try I seem to get lost at the same point - just by the Green Man!

Thanks for those suggestions, confess that we've done all the above ( apart from Dog and Pheasant ) , always useful to have an extra incentive for our teenage boys. We also have to cruise to skateparks within walking distance- not many of those though !

There's a good skate park in Brightlingsea close to the tower, and another close to the entrance of Ipswich Haven Marina, & Bradwell Quay Yacht Club also have a pool table I believe. (again you learn these things trying to keep your teenagers amused)

Wivenhoe SC and Maldon LSC have tables and good walks nearby. Limited opening times of course, but both have websites and welcome visitors.
