Last Sunday as I was leaving the pontoons in Porthmadog, 3 lads with beer (or cider) cans in hand went onto our pontoon scheme. There is right of public access to an initial landing stage but gated access to the boats. I didn't give it too much thought at the time and was on my way home anyway. There then followed an incident that I was informed of by email.

Turns out that someone had left the snick up on the gate to take aboard supplies and the three lads went onto the pontoons. They were asked to leave by one of our members and they then hurled racist abuse at him with all manner of effing and jeffing and threatening to throw him in.

There have been comments made such as "typical of the Welsh attitude to the English" but I really don't think that's the case. I think its a general malaise that affects the UK as a whole and the fact that it hasn't been tackled in schools, on the streets, in the home etc. just emboldens yobs who now feel they can behave this way whenever they want. Those that know me, know full well that my non-pc views on dealing with this are the stuff of the "Daily Mail.

But seriously for a moment, whats it like on your pontoon / marina? Have you ever had such incidences and if so, how were they dealt with?

we had some guys spear-fishing with a bread knife taped to a broom-handle who weren't too pleasant last yr. on another day they did threaten a berth-holder with stoning his boat. Marina dealt with it via asking em to go & calling police.

Umm, non-pc as I am, I surely wdn't associate myself with the blimmin daily mail - be more of a " Yobs in your area- how are house-prices affected?" thing, no?

Being English, when I moved to South Wales I had some misgivings about how all the Welsh hated the english - I couldn't have been more wrong. Everyone we met was friendly and we made some good friends there. I even have 2 Welsh god children! Was sad to leave, but IT jobs a thin on the ground in Wales.

There was only 3 things about Wales I hate, the fantastic countryside covered in fly-tipped builders rubbish, the M4 around Cardiff and being called "bud" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Have never spotted any such youths on our pontoons - despite the gate being latched open a lot of the time - but if there were - we have 24hr security and the guard walks around the pontoons day and night and will question anyone that he does not know. Also there are enough of us that should a threat of being thrown in happen we would recipricate .. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

On our pontoon the lager louts are onboard the boats!! Or when having a party on the pontoon!
But seriously we have had thievery on our pontoon, a couple looking for somewhere to have a shag, they found one, Mr. B and me found them!! It was his boat they thought would be a good spot, but louts, no! They wouldnt stand a chance around us lot.

I was woken up at midnight once in St Katherines Dock to a drunken 'city boy' suited and booted dancing on my deck. If he hadn't jumped off sharpish i'd have pushed him in the drink! His female companion on the quayside had the cheek to say to me 'It's only a bit of harmless fun'. I won't repeat what I said to her!
