Further to my can of "black " resin thread i'v now established that its no longer of any use . Problem now is how do I dispose of a gallon of the stuff . Not near any GRP works so nowhere where I can ask others to accept disposal . Any ideas short of accidently letting it slip overboard at sea ??

Put it in the "paint" box at the local tip? They don't distinguish between oil, water and resin-based paints, so I doubt they're doing anything clever with them that a can of resin would screw up. Not actually much difference between your resin and some kinds of two-pack paint anyway.

If you have catalyst, you could catalyse it and turn it solid. It's then just polyester, which I wouldn't feel TOO bad about going into landfill (depending on how much there was)!

Sorry, yes, HIGHLY exothermic!!!! It's absolutely correct that if you had a gallon (or even half a pint!) of catalysed resin in a container with a small surface area, you could start a fire. I used to work at a place where they had old oil drums full of water and any catalysed resin in buckets that was left over would get poured into the water. Once catalysed, it will still set under water, but at least that dissipates the heat.
