This week the EU has adopted a proposal to make pollution of its seas a criminal offence with jail sentences awaiting perpetrators of the most serious offences. Each case will lead to charges against owners, masters and even the charterers.

Re: About Time. nm

What no more flushing of tanks at sea!

A slick operation should be an environmentally aware operation, not one that dumps / flushes oil at sea.

I think holding tanks would cause more pollution, currently owners use marina toilets if possible. If they are forced to have holding tanks they would probably use the boat heads more often, rather than walk 100 yds. A large proportion of the holding tanks would then be dumped on the next trip out. Yuck please no.

Not wishing to create a stink!

Might speed up the installation of pump out facilties. Fowey has had one for some time now, coutesy of SW Water when they did the Clean Sweep operation. Pumps it straight into the town sewers, I believe.
