Hi all,

I am wondering if someone could help me out. I have been doing a bit of T&C on our RS Elite which has a gel coat finish, nothing fancy and hasn't oxidised too much. Having cleaned it off, I am trying to get it back to its shiny new state.

Having done a bit of research, I went for the International Polish & Wax with a Silverline sander polisher. Having applied the International product and allowed it to haze, I then used the polishing bonnet which came with the polisher: this seems to have had no effect. The only way I have managed to get around it is using the thick edge of a microfibre cloth, but I am not sure if this is polishing rather than just removing the layer of wax I put on!

The thing I wondered is if the head on the buffer is the right one for the job, but any other suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

I haven't used the products you mention but I have had difficulty in the past in removing polish/wax when it was too hot and I have used too much pressure. In these conditions only the lightest use of a polishing cloth will do the job. It might be that the mechanical polisher is also producing heat and making it harder. In areas that have dulled or discloured I find Starbrite Colour Restorer liquid polish to be effective without going into the route of more severe cutting compounds.
