I may have to give some of that a trial, the 3M paste wax i use i cant fault, i use it on customers as well as my own boat, but if there is something better out there im ready to try it :)

Different surface conditions, application methods, temperature, how long it cures on the surface before being wiped, even the materials used to apply will return varying results with each product.

In terms of measuring 'performance or durability' it is done via a gloss meter to measure the reduction of gloss from the surface, also measuring the contact angle or reading the surface tension.

Currently testing a full range of marine products for a manufacturer, have a few goodies coming out this year protection wise. :)

I have found the actual condition of the gel coat makes a huge difference, no matter what wax you use is more or less irrelevant if the surface being protected has not been prepped properly. The smoother the finish the less likely anything will stick to it. boats i have wet sanded have lasted 3 years and still only need a wash. Want a custom paint job on a car, dosnt matter how many coats of lacquer are applied, if the finish is not flat the shine wont be there.

Nice to read how others get along with different products here :)
