Well, For the last 6 weeks various parts of my boat have been polished and waxed with various substances. I used 3M liquid wax, 3M Paste Wax, International Polwax, International Polish with Teflon, Mer polish, and International Teflon sealer.
After each trip I have washed the boat down with Zip Wash and Wax.

The Transom was the dirtiest area and that is where I have Graded the finish after 6 weeks. The current standings are:
1) Inter. Polish with Teflon which was finished with Teflon Sealent
2) Inter. Polish with Teflon
3) 3M liquid Wax
4 Inter. Polwax
5) 3M paste wax
6) Mer (it is no longer there!)

Hope this helps somebody

P.S International Stuff is nearly half the price of 3M.

Re: Polish test

It may be half the price but if you dont use it correctly then its throwingyour money in the pit. The paste wax especially needs to be put on with a damp cloth and then rubbed in with a dry cloth.

That better?/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
I may be missing the point but the International stuff appears to be much better so why am I throwing my money in a pit?
Everything was applied in the way the tin said so no excuses there.

Re: Polish test

No not at all but if you are testing polishes then list them in order of greatness, I( see you didnt have any Finesse it on tat list) and then do the same for waxes.

The best test would be to get an area compounded first then polish it in different sections with different polishes then point a density meter at it and take the readings. Then use the same brand wax as the polish you used ie 3M finesse it will have the paste wax on top and International will have its wax on top of its polish and take the readings again.

Throw a hose over it and see which one repells water the best, then i my mind you have a proper test and can list your findings in order.

However, it's well know that Mooses have very poor eyesight /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif (probably explains why so many of them get mounted above fireplaces)

That is most thoughtful of you Moose. You must have gone to some considerable expense to complete this. Yes - it is useful. I don't mind paying the price for stuff that works.

Re: Polish test

I didnt say it couldnt be beaten but I have seen some poorly done test before which dont give accurate findings therefore misleading the consumer.

Re: Polish test

We've been using 3M Ultra High Gloss wax and the boat is looking fantastic, it even works well in the sun which I thought was unusual for a wax!!

No reason to start a new thread.

I have just taken delivery of the Autosmart range of compounds and im happy to report they are the business!

I have tried successfully with 3m ultra performance wax but felt like a change in application was needed for the vastness of the hull so i have picked up a trade product range of 'for paint' compounds and waxes. I dont think much difference can be seen besides the price tag.

I have looked at Scholl Concepts too but they are much more expensive. They do smell great tho.

What are you using to wax your boat this summer?

My rule on waxing is that i do it every other month.

Well, I think you are confusing the products...
compound
then polish
then wax
You have polishing with no wax (which is simply a sealant) and wax with no prior polishing (and the polishing produces the shine).
