Nearly sank the Rib !!

Brave, stupid, lucky or very skillfull-you decide.

I suppose if the protesters were classed as a threat then sinking there boat (with them in it)would be valid option?

Skillfull ...

Its nice of these protestors to give something for the police to practice on .. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Note two 'Men in Black' just coming out to discus that when the protesters give up.

The RIB appears to die of power as does the Red Police RIB, do you think an engine inhibitor was used ? The traffic Police trialled something similar to stop joy riders.

I want one of those!!!!!!!

Now that would be scary, all the films are amazing and have been favourited!

Impressive indeed but in my opinion extremely dangerous irrespective of the skill of the patrol boat captain, the potential for loss of life would be very high to those protesters. A bit OTT considering the threat which appears to be to make a political point and certainly others stories I ve seen suggested no suspicion of firearms or explosives or anything that would suggest they were intent on harming anyone.

A bit overkill nearly killing someone for trying to make a political point!.

Doesn't make the authorities look very good in my book just a bit gun ho and some plod skipper on an ego trip, he'll be dining out on these pics and story for years, heck they'll probably give him a medal!. A lot more guts needed to take a rib up against a gun boat intent on wiping you out....who really are the terrorists here?

Probably not but I am sure they could have been dealt with quite efficiently & expeditiously than that displayed here. They were shadowed by a military helicopter that could have taken them out within seconds if the threat seemed imminent and loss of life was about to take place. They were a long way away from any world leaders at that point, my view no one deserves to be killed without every opportunity given to bring the situation under control. I would also imagine the authorities knew exactly who they were and their intentions, this is the biggest security opperation since world war two and the thought that RIBs and their operators launching within the vacinity where not unknown seems very unlikely.

Hear, Hear.

It seems highly unlikely that anyone could be in those waters without knowing there are intense security operations. If you want to bugger about with security forces these days, dont expect kid gloves.

I think the protesters should think themsleves lucky they weren't blown out the water. Foolhardy in the extreme. Well done to the pilot of the police launch for dealing with a dangerous situation so professionally.

Very interesting question. I looked at both videos.
I'd have told skillful based on the SKY clip, and stupid (sort of) based on the RTL clip.
But looking at the RTL video more carefully, I came to the conclusion that they deliberately run into the rib the second time, after a first "softer" approach.
Which leads me to believe that they were sticking to a pre-defined procedure.
And if so, they definitely did their job well. Therefore, just skillful is my conclusion.
Whether the commander who defined such engagement rules did his job equally well, it's difficult to judge, but that's another matter anyway.
