Police appeal for information after theft at Queen Mary Sailing club

This should be a wake up call to all in the sailing community unfortunately there are some thieving low-life
scum-bags amongst us and we should all be vigilant and get them locked up fast before one of us is the next victims.
I am sure this will be a massive blow to the sailing club as I understand this might be an uninsurable loss. .http://yachtsandyachting.com/news/?article=156147

I also hear that Datchet Water Sailing Club had some engines stolen during the last week.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference SL/11/2078, or call in confidence on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I also hear that Datchet Water Sailing Club had some engines stolen during the last week.

Why am I not surprised?

My boat was vandalised, cables cut (with an axe!) and generally trashed whilst at Datchet Water SC. The local kids are clearly doing it and the police/club weren't even slightly interested.

Security at marinas and ycs is rubbish.cctv at ours is good but to be honest if i wanted to nick something i could evade it easily.

Sorry But had no glasses on and thought it said

We have a similar problem at Hayle (Cornwall) harbour., just over the other side of the estuary from me.

Fowey harbour also has a theft problem

Whilst it is true that Fowey is not immune from thefts. It is probably one of the best protected estuaries in the land. There are regular Harbour Commision patrols. Extremely proactive boatwatches who carry out their own patrols on both sides of the estuary. Not to mention joint environment agency and police marine patrols. Last year saw the capture, conviction and imprisonment of an engine thief and siezure of illegal nets and the conviction of those using them. Stolen property also recovered and returned to owner following execution of search warrants. The local neighbourhood policing team even maintain and utilise a fully coded RIB at their own expense and the prevention of marine crime is a priority for them.

Obviously not the case everywhere.

So come to Fowey and sleep easy.
