FYI.

Karen from the Essex Police, Marine Unit, just called me to advertise a meeting being held next Monday which will be chaired by the Police and Crime Commissioner. Subject is marine crime and how to avoid it and what we can all do to help each other.

I can't attend, but the details are:

Monday 13th May
5.30-7.30pm
Plume School, Fambridge Road, Maldon CM9 6AB

Anyone can attend for all or any part of the meeting.

The PCC is Nick Alston (nice chap) and certainly used to be a sailor; member of Blackwater Sailing Club. Probably still is for all I know. He will have a lot of pressure for resources to go elsewhere so it is probably a case of speaking up or possibly loosing the marine unit.

Well OK, fair to say that I don't live anywhere near the area so would be unlikely to make a meeting at any time but ...

5:30pm to 7:30pm on a Monday??????

Surely timings that are going to rule out most people who work, say, in London for starters

sadly true for me certainly and I did say this to Karen.

It was weird, because she was telling me about it like it was something I would already know was happening - she said she was calling around people to remind them. I clearly didn't have a clue what she was going on about - but I did tell her I would pass the word around.

Looking at the PCC's web site, it looks like this meeting is a general area meeting in which marine crime is only one of the issues he is hoping to discuss. So expect the Maldon locals to be raising their local non-marine issues.
