Pole mounted radar - issues?

We decided on a pole mounted radome and chose the Scanstrut support that rises adjacent to a central backstay. For our centre cockpit boat it seemed best. We use the pushpit railings on each quarter for sitting, fishing, standing by and idly looking etc. so a central pole was appropriate. The pole and gimballed mount are quite secure despite being some 20 degrees away from the vertical.

I don't think you've fully understood how minute is the risk from the average leisure radome.

Pray tell how you can quantify the 'risk' exactly, many in the industry would be interested. What are your qualifications to pontificate on this?

Read the report I linked to in post #8. Check the minimum safe distances for the most popular radomes (and note that this distance is measured from the centre of the radome). Read the note on Raymarine's site which says "the energy absorbed from an ordinary mobile phone can be several times greater than that from a correctly installed Raymarine radar." As long as you don't stand with your head against the radome, leisure radars are safe.

I didn't think I was "pontificating" at all, just offering a rational realistic alternative viewpoint, which I thought was the aim of forums. And I'm not especially qualified, just have a degree in engineering.
