I am trying to find a polarity test plug supplier to use on pontoon supply on continental marinas. I hear they can be a bit variable.
Thanks in advance CD

Screwfix do one! Plug in to the pontoon with your regular cable and use the UK 3 pin jobbie from Screwfix to test somewhere on your system.
Then you need to have made up a 'gender bender' to switch the cables if the supply polarity is wrong.

I use one for caravanning in france bought it from the local caravan shop about £7, it also works on marina with boat, of course doesn`t matter which country you are in all you want is the correct polarity for your appliances.

please explain why??

[/ QUOTE ]The real problem is when you mix amps with water!!! If the polarity is wrong on the pontoon AND there is a fault on any boat in the marina which allows a leakage to earth, then you have a situation where amps are flowing into the water and causing anodes to be eaten away much more quickly. Also it has been suggested that deaths from people falling into marinas have been associated with reverse polarity problems (Ref: Nigel Calder's Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual).

Hi been away. I have read that the polarity can be reversed on some continental marinas which then means if I understand it correctly that you are not earther and the RCD on the boat wont work. I have seek one that plugs directly into the marina socket and would prefer that. The three pin would be a bit difficult as all my power point and continental.
Chris.
