Having met Jon Brooks at the RNLI/PBO weekend meeting, I now have been informed by the great man himself that Icom will have their new CE approved SSB (the 801) ready at the end of this year, almost certainly available at LIBS. At last.
And, did you know that you can get a tri-colour masthead light combined with an anchor light that runs with LED's. 50,000 hours projected bulb life, and minute current drain. Quite expensive but if you ask Force 4 swindelry nicely, they will discount it down to about £250'ish. We have one on Cornish Maid, and very nice it is too.
Just thought I would mention it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

could make for an interesting combination! on my boat, every LED flashes in time to my voice when transmitting on the SSB.

and what spec does the radio have? last time i visited their stand they showed me a box they claimed did VHF, SSB and DSC. sounded too good to be true.

If it is similar to the 802, (and why wouldn't it be?), it will be excellent. Another DSC alarm to worry about. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
