Pointless polling

Lately we seem to be having an outbreak of pointless polling on this forum.

What's brought it on?

Is genuine research being conducted, is it an AI thing, people being nosey, or having nothing better to do, or what?

I would like to ask the moderators (may whom God preserve) to introduce a new rule requiring every pollster to include a tick box labelled:

"None of your damned business! "

I'm not convinced that everyone will agree with this - perhaps we need a poll?

To the contrary, I feel an overwhelming compulsion to participate and give an incorrect answer.

I think the polls are rather better than some of our (non boating) forumites who post details of every train journey they go on, place they visit, item of food they eat, or latest rant at relatives. They would be better moving to Facebook to post every detail of their daily activities.

At least the polls inform us about the boating activities of members.

I've met a few forumites and they seem dubious, possibly think the same about myself and have they voted correctly .....

It's just a trend that's caught on as it gets lots of clicks with little effort. I thought the average age poll was interesting but I don't even look at them anymore as it's gotten a bit silly. Don't interact and they'll stop. Giving a fake response is still responding, remember. I doubt it's anything to do with AI as it isn't learning anything marketable that it couldn't deduce by just digesting the whole forum in about a micro second.

I’m not AI, and according to Descartes, I at least know that ‘I am’.
I also know I am a bit regretful of adding to the recent poll numbers

It’s science…can’t argue with that. For example, I think most people on the forum are crazy…but without a poll…how can I be sure ?
