Can anyone recommend any Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5) marine navigation software??

I am looking for something to have similar chart detail to the garmin GPSmap type hand held GPS Chart plotters.

The device I am using is a Mio A701 pda/phone with GPS built in.

Thanks in advance

Martin

I use a Mio with Maptech charts, you have to buy memory map as well to get the PDA download which is a bit of a bind but you can plan at home on the PC and get the routes and way points on the hand held before even going near the boat.

I dont consider it "a bit of a bind"
The Memory-Map software is way more useable than the Maptech software.
However it isnt very good at replacing a good GPS/Plotter.
The Memory-Map software also doesnt incorporate tides which the Maptech software does quite nicely.

I believe that Maptech are about to launch a new version but I was told it wont have a PDA download/option.

I use marine charts from Maptech under Memory-Map software for planning. I also download all the charts (yes all my charts - rasters of the whole English Channel and more) into a PDA - still for planning use only. I've got Pathfinder displays and C-MAP NT+ charts on the boat.

PS
I've written a small Windows PC utility to copy/compress/update all my photos that I store on my PC into a PDA/Phone. I get approx 7000 photos into about 450mb - means I can carry all the photos I've ever taken round with me - someone might be interested.

Maptech will be launching a new product sometime during the spring called Chart navigator Pro.
This is already on sale in the US and comes bundled with 7 DVD's of all US free charts.
It is not actually a Maptech Product but almost entirely licensed from Rosepoint Navigation who also market it as Coastal Explorer for $399.
Evo maptech's UK distributors have not yet made an announcement, but Verlag the German distributors have it at 298 euro without charts.
It will only handle BSB, BSB4/5 raster and S57 vector charts.
It does most of what you would expect from a modern chart plotter, ie Autopilot, ARPA,AIS, Weater (Grib) overlays, Tides and currents etc etc etc.

You can downlad a linited time trial version here:

I too use Maptech firstly on a mio and now on the navman PiN570. Excellent back up to the O/B electonic and paper charts.

The Memory Map installed on my laptop (you need this to feed to the PDA) is very good indeed esp. the tide and current software which predicts flow direction and rates over tidal diamonds.

I have Memory Map and OziExplorer (use Google). You need to buy Ozi for both the PC/Laptop as well as the Pocket PC. It also (both versions) uses Maptech charts. I think Ozi is much better on the Pocket PC than Memory Map. You can download free demos.

Thanks all,

I have installed Memory Map on the Laptop and the PDA it works a treat. Just need to buy some of the maptech marine charts now. Does anyone know where is the cheapest place to get them?

When you buy the charts do you get an updates or do you have to purchase them again?
