I'm not sure whether I'm breaking forum rules by posting this: if so, apologies in advance.
Golden Hind hull no.28 is currently lying derelict at Gallows Point, Beaumaris, Anglesey. She was built by Hartwells in Plymouth in 1966 and is of plywood construction.
She may have been called 'Borer Bee' and owned by an Ian Wilson as there is a plaque suggesting she took part in the 'Dr.Richards Passage Trophy' in 1981.
She is derelict, with some patches of rot in the hull, which is not surprising given her age. Similarly, there are sections of the deck that are rotten and some ribs are in a similar condition.
The mast is present, as are the boom and spinnaker pole, but it should be taken as read that the rigging is beyond use.
She lies on land owned by Anglesey County Council and now managed by Anglesey Boat Company.
As no owner has been traced since ABC took over nearly two years ago, she was put up for auction by sealed bid, but failed to attract any offers.
We have now put her up for sale on eBay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290338410434
The intention is to have the boat removed from the site by the start of October: this is a condition of the sale.
However, if the boat is not sold, she will be dismantled as there are few other options for sale and the space is needed.
It's likely that if she is sold, it will be for a few pounds, with the major costs coming from transportation and restoration.
The purpose of this post is to raise awareness, as otherwise the boat will be dismantled and such a step should, perhaps, only be taken when all other avenues have been closed.
Indeed, in order to avoid any accusations that we are using the forum for commercial gain, we will donate our commission on the sale to the RNLI.
