I have recently moved my 40ft Ketch to Plymouth. However after 2 weeks on the moorings I have sustained considerable damage to the stern from touching the stern of the next door boat. I had already expressed concerns about the closeness of the moorings, which have been relayed this year to accomodate more boats - and asked them not to put a large boat next to it - which they then did!

The good news is that they are going to repair the damage at their cost, - they are very nice and very helpful and there was no reluctance on their part - however I still have this nagging worry that the moorings are too close and there will be further damage during the year.

DOes anyone know of any other moorings in Plymouth which have enough swinging room?

Sorry. Dont think I can be of much help. I keep my boat in Yacht Haven marina, down there, but live in Lancashire and so not alot of local knowlege about swinging berths. All though there should be plenty about. There are others on here that have swinging moorings in Plymouth. Cant remember who though.
By the way. See Kangaroo Court on Motor Boat Site.

No one can force me to come here-----------

I have just moverd my yacht to Mayflower Marina at Plymouth and there does not (touch wood) appear to be a problem there. Certainly not where I am moored.

You might try Cattewater Harbour Authority (2 The Barbican Plymouth Devon PL1 2LR 01752 665934) for trot moorings at Oreston Quay on the Plym. These seem to accomodate some reasonably large boats, but 40 foot is a lot larger than I'm used to sailing, (I keep a 21 footer there) so you'd need to speak to them yourself! They may also be the owners of the swinging moorings in the mouth of the river, just off Mount Batten, onto which you would certainly fit, but I'm not certain.

Cheers

Try 1.The Royal Plymouth Corinthian YC
2. The Royal Western Yacht Club of England
3. Saltash Sailing Club
4. Weir Quay Boatyard (although this might be too far up river for you)
5. calstock Boatyard (even further upriver!)

You might well have to join one of the clubs mentioned above to get a swinging mooring.
