I have changed our split Calorifier 5 gallon for a new 7 gallon tank. I have plumbed it in exactly the same but are having all sorts of problems. The water still comes out of the taps even with the batteries turned off and hot water comes out of both taps. Someone suggested I need a non return valve and an accumaltor tank fitted. If so why didn't I need one before? Any suggestions for solutions.

sounds like you have pressure being generated in the tank. That's the only reason the taps work if battery is off. It would also explain why hot water coming out of cold taps. So why is there pressure in the tank? Is it full of air? Is the pressure relief valve on the side of it set too high? Or something along those lines

Is the new tank's head physically the same as the old tank's, by the way?

Yes there must be a pressure building because when I undo the filling cap it makes a big hissing noise. How do I solve the problem or find out why its happening?

This is hard by internet! Would be easy by looking at the boat. First make sure you have eliminated all air, and that the new tank position doesn't cause an airlock (very unlikely that the position of the tank is an issue). Next check you haven't made a plumbing mistake, cos it's beginning to sound like you have /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Third, is the tank ok? A split in the calorif loop would cause pressure in tank when engine running. When all these symptoms are happening, is the engine running? And is the engine coolant level ok?

Have you sorted yet? did you fill up with hot tap open? did you check to see if the exspanion tank is big enough to take the extra volume, if not get a bigger exspanion vessel
