My old MLR gps seems to have gone on the blink, powers up okay, but it wont get a fix, and doesn't seem to be picking up satellites. I'm not sure if it's the antenna, or the machine itself, so I'm having it checked out.
I have a plotter mounted in the cockpit, so it's not essential. However, it is handy for charting my position, and the NMEA powers the instruments, so it would be nice to have it working again.
I have looked to see if I can by a second hand fixed GPS, but they seem quite rare now, Most of the ads are for plotters, some quite reasonable because they don't have map cards in them. Will they still give a fix and the transmit NMEA data without installing a card.

Just had another thought.
The plotter in the cockpit runs NMEA to the DSC radio, can I extend some cable to connect it to the instruments. All they need is my lat and long.

Almost certainly yes. There is a limit to the number of "listeners" that can be run by one "talker", but for two or three more devices it should be ok.

BR-355 serial GPS mouse and a YAPP interface box, £35 for both, all new kit. Problem solved.
