Just bought a handheld (albiet quite a large one) Navionics RC400 takes the card straight out of the Raymarine E120 on my friends Man 50.
Superb does all the things the big plotter does, and I can take it onto any boat I'm skippering in case theres no repeater on the fly.
Thinking of trying to convert the base of the holder that comes with it, from a screw down bracket to one of the sucker thingies cos it portable you see.
Runs off the 12v fag socket thingy too. Oh and got it VAT free in Gib via my "ship in transit" tee hee
The same company is doing them in the special offers section for £299, what did you pay?
I Have the Garmin quest with full blue chart on but that is the grab bag gps plotter, it's quite small but usable in an emergency, I just want another spare for the boat with a built in antenna. I have both Blue Chart and the Navionics chip so anything that takes either with a reasonable sized colour screen would do, the garmin just looked very cheap and a bargain for a spare.
As for tax free, do you not need to declare it and pay tax now you are back in Spain? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Just seen a Garmin 182C plotter advertised for £249 incl VAT, is this a good price for a spare? seems very cheap.
[/ QUOTE ] 182 discontinued, but a fine plotter. Been replaced by the 292 which can use G2 charts. Not worth the extra money, imho, the 182 is fine for a product that size. Personally I'd prefer the 276C also replaced just recently by the 278C so good deals. 276C portable (ie move from helm to helm, RIB, car, etc). Screen only 20% smaller that 182, but fantastic unit.
Yes - Especially if you have only unlocked your current garmin CD charts for the main plotter (ie you can unlock charts FOC for 182 as garmin allow 2 unit serial numbers per unlock). Not an issue if using cartridges. A new 276C is about £410 so thats £150 less for a larger screen (ie 5" v 4")
I use the 276C as our spare on the cruiser, on the RIB and in the car (ie trying to find ski resorts in alps, etc). The bean bag mount is the only one we ever used with it.
It is a bargain if it is what your after, an eTrex with a colour screen would be the same price and self contained but if you want a nice screen and wired 12v power then it is good for the money.
I have sold my boat to geoff with the 3005C in it, I bought a new chart for that as it was new so have one life left to use. I have the latest Navionocs CF card which I bought for my new Raymarine plotter, so can use either as I said. It would be nice to have two independent systems, so say your Navionics CF card was compromised you would have a independent system to use e.g. Blue Chart
So good I bought one last week and you know what a bargain hunter I am /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Actually, I have an old mono 180 in the Hardy, and the 182C is same size so an easy upgrade without more dash hacking, and at the price it's a complete bargain.
Good idea. We have a separate main Raymarine and Garmin plotters for that very reason. (Actually there's 4 on board: 2 main, 276C backup and 76 in the grab bag - insane I know, but I was born with a USB port behind my left ear /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif )
Wireless? I got it - my dentist just fitted blue tooth. Now instead of snoring my beloved says I hum in bed. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Problem is if we have an agrument she just presses my Ctrl-Alt-Del button every time.
