My Horizon 180 used to tell my Navman7100 where it was (Lat/Lon) but now it doesn't. I've checked the wires to the point of reconnecting but still no joy. I haven't knowingly changed any settings.

Any clues?

There must be something wrong then! Have you tried switching it all off and then back on again? This works for me.

I get my position data from a handheld GPS gadget connected to my Cobra DSC/VHF by an assembly I soldered up myself. It's quite miraculous that it works at all, but sometimes crew members interfere with it and it stops working - position is either 00.000N 000.000E or 99.999N 99.999E. When this happens I just power down and back up again. The handheld gets its power from the radio's supply.

NMEA communications are very simple, single bit serial (two wires) there is little to go wrong including - bit stream out of sync (try restarting) - signal voltage low or no signal (check, clean etc connections) - something else ...?

I have the 7200 operators manual and under troubleshooting for 'no position information is displayed' causes may be:
The GPS cable may be faulty or the GPS setting incorrect
Check that the GPS cable is physically connected
Check the polarity of the GPS cable
Check the Baud rate setting of the GPS if applicable. The Baud rate setting should be 4800 for NMEA or 38400 for Navbus. Parity should be set to NONE.

Setting it up :

Select 'DSC setup', then 'DSC FUNCT' to ON, the DSC annunciator appears on the channel screen.

In the operators manual it states that "it is not possible to have both ATIS ON(on) and DSC(on) simultanoeusly; when you turn one on the other will turn off. If DSC and ATIS are both OFF DSC will have to be switched to ON for the DSC function.

There are 2 annunciators on the screen to show you the current mode, i.e. if DSC is shown the DSC is operational, and vice versa for the ATIS annunciator "

Hope this helps
