Plotter recommdation...

Not sure why you are taking this attitude. lustyd is only telling you how it is. Your beef is with the manufacturers - not with the messenger.

Going through the same process myself and as Paul says the Garmin Echomap is the only plotter that still has an 0183 port. However, I understand that this is being discontinued but there is still stock around.
I don't have any beef with anyone...I was asking if anything was available.... including 2nd hand options....and get a lecture on obsolete...I know most new ones dont come with....hence why I'm here asking for recommdations....maybe an older (but newer than 2006) Garmin is an option....or maybe there is a dual nmea to n2k converter someone can recommend.etc...

I'm not so sure the Echomap series is being discontinued, some models were updated (hence the older ones disconnected), but as far as i know there are no plans to drop the whole range.
Garmin website shows as discontinued, but usual chandlers still showing plenty of stock - except Hudson who show discontinued and can't be ordered!

That's because you're looking at the previous Echomap Plus models, that were updated, hence no longer available, the current models are the Echomap Ultra series. But the whole range has not been discontinued:

You can fit a multiplexor, which will merge both NMEA data streams into one.

You can fit a NMEA0183 to N2K converter, which would also require a basic N2K network.

The multiplexor is likely the cheaper option, but the N2K network option might be useful in future.

Anyone recommend a good N2K converter?

It's certainly not a stand-alone converter, but I used a Vesper XB-8000 AIS to do this on ours. We were fitting AIS anyway, and wanted the data over WiFi, with a wired option so this ticked a few boxes at once.

I asked about Garmin plotters at the Southampton boat show. I’ve always been pleased with Garmin 5” plotters. My current GPSmap 5” model works well apart from having weak Active Captain interoperabity since Blue Chart Mobile was nuked.

I was advised
- GPSmap is only available in larger sizes these days. No more 5”.
- Echomap continues to have smaller models in the range
- GPSmap models no longer include a chart (grrr, they used to)
- Echomap models do include a chart
- The screens on Echomap models have lower resolution than on GPSmap models

I always thought Garmin were great for the smaller boat as well as for large boats. It seems to me they are moving to more premium models and prices.
