Plotter NMEA data to PC

Is it possible to get NMEA data from your plotter into your pc ?
I have the bare NMEA wires input output and common but how do I get them into the PC ? Via a USB ? Can you wire up your own USB plug ? Which wires would go where ?
Or is there some other sort of connector I can I put on the end to get the data into the PC ?

Easiest way is with a USB to Serial port connector ...

GPS
Computer

Data Out (send)
Data In (Pin 2, receive)

Data In (receive)
Data Out (Pin 3, send)

Ground
Ground (Pin 5, ground)

Check that you are receiving using Hyperterminal. Set to 4800 baud with no handshaking & you should see the NMEA sentences.
