As we no longer have a search engine that works please can you save your best posts.

In the past there have been some excellent threads on

Specific engines
Winterising
Anti fouls
Cooper coat
Engine alternative parts numbers
chain markers
anchoring
best weather sites
etc
etc
etc

If a few of us save the best ones we can then just send a link to anyone requesting the information.

It is a shame that these valuable posts are no longer available.

In particular I was trying to find a post from 2 months ago about the D series engines but google hasnt helped and just directed me to YBW home page /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I am not sure if there is a limit or not, perhaps just save the reference posts, the ones that are dull but contain valuable information, we can all remember your witty ones /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What are you taking about man!??
The search engine works fine for me, when i type in Absolute, it comes up with 685 results! That sounds like a good search engine to me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers

Al.

Thank you Brendan /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well done /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Is it just me not using the google thing right or did you have difficulties too ?

Hi Alistair,
having found 685 results it takes ages to click on each one, we used to just scan down a list of titles seeing the posters name helped.

cheers
Pete

It's not picking up that thread, some older threads drop off very quickly. To make it work really well, ybw would need to purchase a corporate version of google, and build their own index of forum threads

Whats with all the angry faces , not thinking of name back to Mr Angry I hope /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I presume the loss of the Search engine has been discussed in the lounge ?(cant find it if it has).

But by pressing the knot on the finger we can save our own posts ready to share with selected contributors in the future , I thought it was one of my better brain waves /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I saved this from Scuttleburks just for you Doug /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Been very busy of late and only fleeting glances at the forum so not sure about the lounge.....

its was Mr Grumpy BTW /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif....I still have the post the past swmbo did and reread it occasionally /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

And i see you have been teasing on scuttleburk again /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.....though admit the stories still make me laugh and as you know I know the club quite well /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

and if Mr FC should read this.....wadda yer mean its only a stinky fish dock fer chrissakes /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
It is MY home port /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif and i like it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

given that google isn't finding the relevant thread, guess how I managed to find it?

Actually I used Yahoo, but as Yahoo own Altavista, and Altavista uses Yahoo search engine technology, it's the same thing

I naturally assumed it had something to do with kryptonite.....

Silly me! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Might be worth telling Dan that Yahoo and Altavista work better than Googlies then , must admit I haven't had much trust in their results for a long time , not sure but they seem to be aiming the results more at advertisers than research lately

Altavista advanced search works much better for me, and pulls up posts back to 2004, at least.

(Set 'By URL:' to _www.ybw.com/forums)

I think it will find all of DAKA's examples.

I would be interested to hear back if you try it.

(No connections, etc.)

Thanks Andy /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes it works much better, long drawn out process compared to old YBW but at least you can scroll down reading /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the link fisherman, only a week old and I didnt find it.

Just a thought but if threads are gone for good after a few days perhaps Andy shouldnt be apologising for duplicate post ( that I hadnt seen and it was important), I think we need to revisit the popular topics more frequently

Should modern sailing boats out for a jolly with power readily available still give way to power ? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

cheers
Pete

Only joking about sail /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
