Very reluctantly agreed to check a friend of a friends D1Lc ( on a paid basis) he said it would run for 4 mins then stop he could restart run for 4 mins then stop again.
It behaved in a similar way for me but sometimes ran longer and would run for a good while on the lower temps.
My tester indicated 'flame sensor out of spec' and then 'stop due to overheating' Checked the sensors... in range checked plug pump etc all in range. Unit working ok now, so had it on and off in half hour cycles, worked fine for 5 cycles the failed... back to 4 minute problem.
Thought Id look in via the glow plug... chamber, plug and gauze fine... but... ahh no seal on the plug, found a seal now working fine (touch wood) So... dont forget the seal chaps!!!
Problem is how much to charge this friend of a friend ( who I bet is the culprit)

how did the lack of seal cause the unti to fail like this, what does the seal do?

Yes it seals /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif, but what?

Good question because the unit is still displaying the same symptoms....Curse curse!! The main purpose is to seal the gases in the combustion chamber. Perhaps cluching at straws I hoped that as the glow plug was effectively too far into the chamber this was affecting the flame indicator and temp sensor. The dam thing is still working/not working and so very difficult to find the real cause.
