Hi YBW users,

I hope you are all well.

I have recently bought a boat and I am wondering what the best cleaning products that everyone uses are? I am looking for something that is of good value and quality?

Kind Regards,

Scott.

You don't explain what aspects of boat cleaning concerns you

Interior, exterior, bird muck removal, teal deck maintenance, grp, painted surfaces ???

+1 - never ceases to amaze me that posters seem to think we all have a crystal ball when they ask a question. Giving boat details is a sensible thing to include, also stating construction - grp, wood, steel, alloy, ferrocement, papier mache etc.

You can buy all sorts of overpriced "marine" products or you can buy the same stuff for 1/3 the price in Aldi/Lidl.

Patio cleaner is great for green decks. Car and domestic stuff will do for the rest. Just don't use wax anywhere you might want to walk 'cos it'll make it slippery.

If afloat, and you care about aquatic life, you won't use a patio cleaner, or at least not Tesco's, because it has warnings about toxicity to the marine environment. Best check the label before buying.

I find Starbrite stuff to be generally good, but also use International. For yellow staining I use Yachticon anti-gilb, which is similar to Y10 but better. What matters more than the product itself is the regularity of use and care taken.

It is usually better to avoid potentially abrasive products such as Cif on shiny surfaces, and also to avoid car polishes on fibreglass because the silicon can make later painting difficult, though there are those who say this is overstated.

If the boat is out of the water, you can use cheapo kitchen cleaner from Wilko or ALDI, it's always better than proprietory brands for some reason. Don't use it in fresh water lakes though, you'll kill all the fish.:D:D:D:D
