PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE A DEHUMIDIFIER FOR A 40\' LIVEABOARD

Hi -

Could anyone recommend a good dehumidifier for a 40' liveaboard? I am new at this! There are so many different types online, I have no clue what to get! Thanks a lot to any that can help!

B & Q or Argos do one for £70 - £80. Bought ours last year and it is same as many 'marine' ones. Works really well and quiet too. Has frost stat, internal and external draining through 6mm pipe (not supplied). High and low speed settings and adjustable dial for auto on/off etc. It has castors too. Quite heavy, but seeing as it is mainly a winter item, its not a real issue. Definitely recommend it. Roy

Hi

There have been quite a few writers on this (search dehumidifiers and I'm sure you will find them all) and the majority agree the £74.95 B&Q dehumidifier is definitely worthy of consideration.

Personally, I have had mine on my boat for 2 months now, and it is doing a fantastic job.

Good luck

I agree. I bought one from Homebase last year and used it all winter with a drain hose into the sink (sat the unit on worktop). The model I have removes upto 18 litres/day (supposedly) and has 4 settings. Cost £100, worth every penny. No need to buy a specific marine one, unless you can get a 12V one.

Side issue: Can the water extracted by a de-humidifer be used to top up batteries?

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, it's ideal - better than de-ionised - but make sure the dehumidifier container is clean.
