Playstation / TV incompatible - NB

Personally, I think the law that says you can't do what you like to your playstation (that you've bought and paid for, not just a license, real hardware) is bonkers, but there you go.

The point about buying a game in the US is that its easily done. How are you supposed to know it won't work in your UK playstation? I don't buy the 'US electrical items don't work in the UK, so qed' argument because we're talking about a silver disk. CD's work in UK and US players, so how should I know a game won't? My laptop (bought in the US) works in the UK and US. If I bought a PSP, can I buy games abroad? What about films for it?

Despite what you and others say about licenses etc. thats an issue a consumer doesn't really know about, much less care about. All consumers see is the big money players doing their best to ensure that they can charge different rates in different countries/regions, normally to the detriment of us in the UK. I'm sure the massive prevelance of region-free DVD players is no co-incidence....

I am not condoing piracy of course - but maybe if they had made games machines that didn't care about regions, there'd be less appetites for 'chipped players' in the first place and less piracy as a result?

Had the playstation issue been one of "how do I play a pirated/copied game on my playstation" then I would not have contributed to the thread. Instead the issue here is that someone has actually brought a game without prior knowledge that it won't play on a UK system.

They are not stupid, just not anywhere near up to date on such practices. Many people are completely unaware that these issues exist, and nothing to do with being stupid
