Tuesdays forecast looked like the usual load if old tosh so I drove down to watch the Mirabella V launch and go for a sail.

By 10-30 the rain had cleared leaving a sunny afternoon with a good breeze. The CG meanwhile is reading a forecast that had a touch of doom about The BBC is doing it's best to make sailors hide inland as well. I had one reef in the main and half the jib out which gave a super beat into the SWly, Calshot to off Lymington and then, with the genoa unfurled, enough power to run back against the last of the ebb and into Cowes before it rained. Snugged everything down against the forecast F8 to 9 and enjoyed a very quiet night indeed.

Thursday caught the tide up to Portsmouth in brilliant sunshine and then rode the W going tide back to the Hamble just before dark.

To think I could have been at work or if I'd believed the forecast hiding under my bed.

Re: Playing hookey with forecasts

nice to hear someone's enjoying themselves ... !!!

having been chastised in the yanita singlehanded thread for suggesting that being in a boat this saturday might not be a good idea, Gale F8 is duly appearing. That something nasty was brewing was evident on Wednesday morning but it is only today that the (non-met office) forecasting web sites are beginning to show this. I've banged on about this before but there is something not right about what these sites are telling us .... to begin with, they're too slow in updating their info (but then, what d'you expect for free?)

is this just grumpy auld bastid syndrome .. ?

Isnt that always the way ? My only problem used to be convincing SWMBO that forecast was wrong. Now shes been convinced she doesnt beleive the good ones either!! Makes for some great solo sailing <S>
