We got a very small puncture in our Plastimo tender. I had never had to use the repair kit before today. I cut the patch to the required size and according to the instruction sheet I was supposed to apply three coats of thin glue to both the patch and tender.

When I opened the glue tube I found it was about 75% air and the small amount of glue which was present was like cahoutchy. To spread it thinly would have been impossible.

I ended up squeezing as much as possible to both surfaces and stuck them as well as I could - weighing it down as directed.

The patch took, and the repair seems fine, but the glue tube is empty after one use.

Not really very good in my humble opinion. Had the cut been of any size at all I would have been snookered.

It should have been like that!
How old was the repair kit? Was it a sealed tube or had it been opened previously?

If you had to do it you had to to it but it would have been better to have not proceeded until you had a new tube of glue and ideally some of the correct solvent to clean and pretreat the surfaces.

Last year, when I needed to repair a small hole in bottom of our seago (some oaffs decided to use it as a bouncy castle when it was pulled up on the beach at Pottery Quay, Brownsea Island) I found the 4 yr old tube of glue in the repair kit was solid and useless. I used the super glue I had on board to glue a patch on, and it has survived a year so far without leaking.
