I have recently purchased a 4man Plastimo liferaft in a canister that I have mounted on the transom of my boat. As I went to put the liferaft in the locker after a weekend sailing I noticed that the canister contained some water!!
My local dealer has assured me that this is quite normal and that it will not harm the liferaft.
Any comments?

There is a considerable extra charge for the canister over the valise - you would think that for the price they could include a waterproof seal!

Even if it doesn't harm the raft, it's still extra weight you're lugging about. Not good enough, IMHO.

Like every "watertight" item, the canister tends to breath, absorbing humidity, which then condensates inside.
The solution is to drill one (or several) small hole(s) (1 or 2 mm. dia) at the low point(s), allowing the condensation water to be expelled when the inside air warms up.
Sounds stupid, but works very well!

Since holed, my canister remains dry, as well as the self righting lights whose transparent domes were always full of water before the "treatment".

NOT recommended for EPIRB's, or diving equipment! ;-)
