I am due to give my venerable Plastimo 709 furler some long-overdue TLC. It still works well except for some excessive friction, which I attribute to worn bearings.
If anyone can point me towards any or all of a manual, assembly diagram, parts list or source of spares (hopefully those that might ship to Oz), I'd be very grateful.

Hearing your tale of removal/disassembly and reassembly/reinstallation would be pretty handy too.

Cheers, Graeme

Cant speak for more up to date furlers but mine is a 1012t. Right on 5 years it started getting really stiff. Took it down to see what was wrong with it. That was when I swore I would never buy anything from plastimo ever again.
The bearings (torlon and delrin) were fine and unlikely to wear but they use stainless with aluminium. The ally oxidises, expands and crushes the bearings stopping it from rotating.
Spoke with plastimo about this and they told me it's my fault for not washing it through with fresh water after every use.
Strange that the top swivel 13 metres up was seizing but the one that gets sea water was fine.
I had an engineering friend machine stainless to replace all the aluminium and it's been working fine for past 20+ yrs.
For mine, the cover over the furling rope needs removing (2 halves?) Then you can see the screws that hold the assembly together. Once removed the furlers can be lifted up the forestay to get at bottle screw or furlers mounting.
Plan B would be remove forestay.

Yes thank you bob. There is nothing on Plastimo.com, which is where I first started looking.

So, anyone have any helpful knowledge of these furlers?
