I use a Plastimo 2 burner hob on the boat. At times (nearly always!) the left hand burner fails to stay alight after releaseing the control knob on start up. ( you need to hold in the knob until the thermocouple has enough heat to keep the valve open)
My first thoughts would be with the thermocouple but if you hit the knob hard a few times it generally stays on!!!

Any thoughts on this one and what chance and where could I obtain spares for this burner?

Paul.

Check the unions are tight first then, if they are strip the knob and valve and FFD and go to the local Calor center - IIRC there is one in Ayr. They should be able to supply replacement bits, failing that Duncan's.

Had exact same fault with my ENO 2 burner hob. Was thinking about replacing it but after chatting to a very helpful boat / gas / inspection chap he said that the thermocouple would be probably ok but it would be more likely either to be a fault in the solenoid (which the thermocouple connects to) or (as in my case), the individual burner control knob not opening the valve properly.

He explained that over a period of time this can slide down and stops opening the gas flow just enough to prevent full flow through the valve, which doesn't allow the safety valve to stay open.

I was sceptical, but took the biutton off the cooker and 'adjusted ' the end of the valve so that the button would definitely be fully opening the gas (and not jamming up against the valve lock nut on the front panel) - and hey presto!!!! Saved me about £130 for a new hob!!

Hope the above makes sense - quite difficult to describe! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
