hello all,

my generator (yanmar 2gm20) has both a waterlock and muffler fitted (50mm flexhose iirc)
Both items plastic (look like vetus, dont' think they are though)
Now inlet on the waterlock has a swivel elbow so you can place it as you wish regarding engine/pipe/exit.
This thing leaks when engine is running (just noticed!)

Considering engine, muffler and exhaust exit are above waterline (only waterlock is under the water but just and I could as well lift it above) it's not a boat threatening situation, but I'd rather not have a leak there.

I'll try and take it apart and see how the plastic elbow seals with the plastic body of the waterlock.
Can I use sika 291 to seal the thing (ok, let it dry and then refit and test) or should I epoxy the lot?

Would like to keep all in place to keep noise down as much as possible.

cheers

Sounds to me as a Vetus type, it's not under pressure so it should seal easily whatever you use,
I had problems when someone had stood on my water lock and split it at the joining seam across the top, I sealed it with gorilla glue BUT it has to be dry.

thanks guys,

I'll remove it tomorrow morning, dismantle, empty it, check it out, clean it and let it dry.
I'll try self amalgamating tape first and see (maybe add some sika on top for good measure :D )

cheers

I repaired my Vetus waterlock with judicious use of a soldering iron, still good after 5yrs, hope I haven't jinxed it now.

Been there done that about 2 months ago.
Vetus LP45 waterlock. The "female" section of the inlet which accepts the "male" swivel joint had split. Its a rubbish design as the split is ALWAYS on the moulded seam where the two halves of the moulding are joined together. Did the silicone sealant, Geocell Works, soldering iron repairs, all to no avail. The inner section needs to be as smooth as possible and as this is already on a weak point I though I would be safer than sorry (as the bilge was rapidly filling when the engine ran) so purchased another one. Had to go the Vetus option as couldn't get anything else to fit in the space available. Don't like the design, an extortionate amount for a bit of moulded plastic and the original was fitted new in 2013 when the new engine was fitted. Less than 5 years life for a piece of rotomoulded plastic is a very poor show.

thanks for all the suggestions.
It is a Vetus LP one.
tightened the clamp keeping the swivelling male part secured on the housing, dripping stopped. Will just watch it for now and see
