Plastic Threads

The table leg for our cockpit table is secured with a plastif collar on a large 8cm dia thread. For the table to remain secure this needs to be very tight. Trouble is its very stiff. I've been using PTFE spray to help but this leaves a build up and so defeats the object. Would silicon grease be better or will this swell the plastic?

Silicon grease should be OK with plastics - but use the grease type not the spray type as solvents in the sprays can react with some plastics.

I tend to use PTFE grease on obstinate threads, but it don't know if it is any different to silicon grease for your task.
