Friends,
After having removed “two” layers of headlining from my 19 foot Fantasie I am now down to the GRP. I don’t fancy putting back FBV or carpet but instead I would like to slop on an opaque thick layer of white (something). I was thinking of a paint-on-able epoxy or some such. I have heard about a “flow coat” is it? I realise there would be more condensation but I want to see if I can get away with it first. I can always headline it after.

Does anyone know of a suitable recipe I could try or even an existing product.

Cheers.

William.

Not tried it myself, but several people have mentioned anti-condensation paint as being effective.
Flow coat is about 50% polyester resin +50% gel coat resin + catalyst and pigment. You might find it doesn't bond very well to the existing grp. If you can afford it you can use slightly thickened and pigmented epoxy.
I think some sort of paint is your best bet, preferably not a high gloss finish. Just an opinion of course /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I found anti-condensation paint to be less than adequate and tended to mark clothes etc, but maybe it was just me. I now use B&Q Bathroom and Kitchen paint which is an eggshell finish. After 3 years my heads look like new and no condensation at all.

I tried anti condnsation paint , it started flaking before I even got her in the water, I have also used paint on gelcoat, it runs, and it needs covering to help it cure, and horrendously expensive.
Epoxy thickenned with the white thickenning granules is paintable and spreadable, I couldnt achieve a good finish though. Bilge paint works and satinwood paint work well. Good luck, I have spent months on mine, its hard work!

Why not use gelcoat?
A friend has just completed glassing in the floors of his boat and was going to use Danbolin when someone suggested gelcoat instead.
It worked less expensive than two pack paint and gave better cover than locker paint.
