Im considering replacing my old aluminium petrol tank this year, for a custom made plastic tank, which i understand Tek-Tanks manufacture.

Has anyone ever fitted a plastic fuel tank in their boat and if so have there been any problems.

The boat is a fast planing cruiser.

Hi

I replaced my aluminium tanks for plastic with no problems.

Not sure if im teaching my granny to suck eggs but make sure that your insurance company are happy for you to do this and that obv. all tanks and connections are CE approved ( the insurance company will insist on this).

If you are using the boat on Inland waterways as far as I know plastic tanks arent suitable for the BSS certificate.

From a practical point of view no problems at all using them, IMVHO if your using plastic id put them ina place that you can get to them to check them and possibly able to remove them without destroying your whole boat.

Im sure somebody on here with far more experience than me will be able to help you further.

I replaced my steel petrol fuel tank with a plastic tank from Tek-Tanks. It was CE marked suitable for both Petrol or Diesel and as I was changing from petrol to diesel anyway, I asked them to ensure the fittings for both were included. I actually visited them to pick up the tank and they could not have been more helpful. A nice bunch and would be happy to recommend them anytime. They also have a custom tank manufacturing capability, just supply them with a template. As I am on the Norfolk Broads, any mods I am making are to BSS standards and there is no problems with plastic tanks.

Purchased a 70 Litre tank from Tek-Tanks along with all the fittings, and it went in sweet as a nut, money well spent
