Please can a plastic fuel tank such as one that comes with a 15hp yanmar outboard be used as a DIESEL inboard fuel tank.

I would expect a diesel tank to have a return line from the injectors, but your tank will have only one outlet. I guess you could sort the plumbing between the engine and the tank to allow for the injector return flow - or add a filter housing that allows for return flow.

See no reason why not. I have carried diesel in plastic fuel cans on board for years and AFAIK diesel is less aggressive than petrol.

Yes, i have done it. Most plastic fuel tanks have top feed therefore you need to make sure your diesel engine has a suction pump to pump the fuel out to the engine.

If your diesel engine has a gravity feed, you need to ensure that there is a bottom feed and the fuel level needs to be above engine height. You can create a permanent suction by syphon but if you ever run out of fuel you will need to create a syphon again which can be very difficult.

The return pipe from the injectors (if there is one) can be taped into the plastic tank or into the inline filter between tank and engine, all depends on what system you have.
