plastic for winch top

I have two Barlow Winches with broken plastic top rings. I have access to all the gear to turn new ones but not sure what to make it out of. Delrin is good but is a bit prone to chipping, it's low friction is not neccisarily a benefit for this application. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure which part you are talking about. Perhaps a picture would help.

Tufnol? They used to make complete winches from it.

Sorry, but vague there. Quality not the best but this illustrates it pretty well.

Unless there is a very good reason for it to be in plastic I would consider aluminium.
