I want to replace my rusty diesel tank with a plastic one as used for outboards. They all seem to have only a supply fitting with no way of fiitting a return line. Does anyone have experience of using/converting these tanks?

Thanks

Steve

Fuel tanks are usually a polyethelene material that is ungluable and must be factory welded, so mods are a bit tricky. You can get plastic tanks as small as 25 litres from, amongst others, Vetus. About £100 with all the fittings I think.

I imagine that you are wanting to use a cheaper option and want to avoid the cost of purpose made tanks.....nothing wrong with that!

You may be able to fit a through fixing to the cap which you can then quickly fit the return line to.

Go to Tek Tanks. Talk to them and they will fit any "terminals" you want for flow, return and vent pipes in the size you specify.

Friendly and efficient.

If you want a portable outboard-style tank, talk to a Yanmar dealer about the tanks supplied for their diesel outbooards. If You want a fixed tank, try Vetus.

Apart from being corrosion-free, plastic tanks don't need guages, you can see the fuel level from outside!

Yeah vetus do them butyou wold need the connection kit for diesels, and plastimo do them with the connection kit fitted. Cant find my vetus price list at the mo!

I had to remove two very big steel tanks (by cutting them up) with no way of fitting new ones of the same size. Having a number of plastic tanks linked together was one option and the Tek Tank people were very helpful.

In the end I went for Duratank flexible tanks, because they were very easy to fit.

Duratank

I had a difficult installation and they were really helpful, and not expensive.
