Would be an ideal location, slap bang in middle of town centre, easy access to shore and fairly sheltered spot.
Accessable all states of tide with no lock or bridges to negociate .Fairly simple task to drive few piles in and install a line of pontoons, something very similar to Imperial on the Thames or Victory moorings just downstream.Being on outside of bend probably self dredging as well.
Wonder if its to much to hope for a cafe of some other "destination" at end of the access walkway.
Useful stopping point for all the visitors from the continent lookng for somewhere to stop and shop or overnight.Would bring trade into the Mudway towns as well.

The real problem with Margate/Herne Bay was its location.
Exposed to just about every horrid wind direction possible and with major dredging and curtain wall construction expences.Anybody who has ever transited across that north coast will confirm just how unpleasant it can be with no depth of water and a lot of reach for the wind to build up the sea.
With the proposal at Chatham in the sheltered bight at Rats Bay,the water is already there, few short piles and a short gangway for shore access is all the capital outlay required.
We really do need somewhere for visitors, especially visiting yachts,to be able to moor safely and securely in the towns.
Much as we all love the seclusion, romantic views of the power station and chemical factory at Queenbourgh its attractions are a bit rubbish for anybody but diehard yotties, yearning for the sounds of distant forklifts and seagulls.
