Hi everyone, just signed up.

I started sailing last year and so far have just been going out in dingies, but I'm taking a big step up this year and plan to buy a boat for use as a liveaboard and local coastal cruising. I have been looking around various sailing forums for a while and thought this one would be the most appropriate one to start on; there seems to be a lot of useful information and active members, although I'm not sure how much useful information I will be able to contribute myself!

I am based in Plymouth and want to get a berth in a local marina, most likely Plymouth Yacht Haven or Sutton Harbour. Boatwise, I keep coming back to the Westerly Centaur as the most suitable craft for me, it seems to score high on all the features I deem important. So I'm not planning on going anywhere fast.

Living on a boat and going sailing don't always go together in the same sentence. You will have to keep a tight reign on stuff you bring aboard and stow so you can actually go sailing. The centaur is a fine boat as a coastal cruiser and should be liveable in.... maybe the addition of a full cockpit cover would afford you a garden shed or as the Americans say a mud room.

Thanks, that's a good suggestion about the cockpit cover. I have a friend who was a liveaboard, she said the same thing.

I used to semi-live in a campervan and got used to the routine/limitations of living in a small moving vehicle.
