Next week my club embark on a two week East Coast Cruise. Unfortunately I can't have the time off but want to sail with my comrades on the two weekends! (Pending weather that is!) The itinerary consist's of stop overs at Brightlingsea, Shotley, Woodbridge, Woolverstone, Ipswich, Tollesbury, Burnham then back to Costa del Canvey.

I can probably do a three day weekend but would like advice where I could leave my boat to catch the train home, so anyone here know the best places as far as say Walton?

Bus/taxi Brightlingsea to Wivenhoe, no places to leave boat for week at Wivenhoe, then you are on Liverpool st Line,
Titchmarsh marina taxi to Thorpe or Walton stations change Colchester for main line
Woodbridge has its own station within easy walking distance.

Ipswich - 15 mins walk to station, 5 mins taxi, but use Haven Marina not the other one.
Titchmarsh - 10 mins taxi to Walton
Woodbridge - 5 mins walk (and much the nicest place of these three, but very restricted by tides)

At Brightlingsea it looks as if Bentley is the nearest station (about 3 miles) and the same line as Walton. Woodbridge looks very appealing but too far for me, as I want to hang around near the Blackwater for maybe three weeks.

Watch out for the fact that National Express are on strike for the next three weeks on a Thursday/Friday. Apparently there may be a train an hour !! I would check this out before deciding were to leave the boat.

Ipswich to shotley, bus from/too rail station every half hour if I recollect correctly

Sadly the service is now only every 2 hours, and not always that!

Used to be pretty much every hour, then a few years ago another company started up in competition, so we did have 2 buses per hour - not the same as every half hour as one came along about 5 - 10 mins after the other !!!

Not surprisingly there was insufficient demand so one comapny gave up and the survivor has reduced the service considerably.
