Hi, I've just joined the forum and hope to get some advice. I'm looking for any recommendations for a good place to lift out on the south of France, nearer to Nice if possible, for a 39' yacht. It's with a view to lifting onto road transport. Anywhere up to Marseille might be possible, idealy with good train or air links. I've searched the forum and elsewhere but a lot of the information I've been able to find isn't that recent.

By "good" I mean easy acccess for a yacht transport, a yard who know what they are doing and not enormous costs.

I'm grateful for any advice, particularly recent experience.

Hi
Would recommend Beaulieu sur Mer. I keep my own boat there .Out of high season plenty of visitor spaces too. Beaulieu is about 10K from Nice with direct train/bus links. The local yard is Monaco Marine . Its fairly busy in the season but out of season not so. Staff very helpful and speak French /English/Italian. I recently paid 110 euro for a lift out and 5 days on the hard for an antifoul. The service road from the entrance goes all the way round to Monaco Marine with good access for a trailer. Both the Port de Beaulieu and Monaco Marine have good websites for info.
Cheers Mick

Beaulieu is not the easiest place for a yacht transporter to get into. Antibes is more accessible for heavy lorries.

That is true, but I am at Beaulieu every week all year round and I have seen several boats coming in and out of Beaulieu on transport so its definitely possible. No port in the S of France near Nice has wonderful spacious access the whole area is confined somewhat. I think Beaulieu itself is more accessible generally . Antibes has lots of narrow streets to negotiate. But the OP asked for an efficient yard and reasonable cost and Monaco Marine is that. But I cant comment on the yard at Antibes because I dont know it. It would be tight but you could get a lorry in the main yard behind the slipway at Beaulieu. My boat which is smaller was hauled out over on the side hard standing and that would be a tight fit. Its definitely worth an enquiry for the OP to see what they say in my opinion
Antibes is also handy for the airport at Nice though. Maybe its swings and roundabouts

I'm also at Beaulieu and our boat arrived there on the back of a truck. Monaco Marine are very good and the capitanere staff are brilliant. Great transport links.

+1 for Navy Service at Port St Louis. Philippe Froment will look after you very well - as he did us, earlier this year.

Many thanks for everyone's advice. It looks like either Port St Louis or La Rague. At La Rague I guess the mast comes down before going to the yard.

Bormes Le Momosa just east of Toulon was very good for us last year.

Bridge bisects yard 1/3 rd -- 2/3 rd ish
One of the two docks - bigger one -is at the sea side of the bridge -this is the one they will use to lift a yacht with mast up .Then demast it and place it on truck .
Trucks often park overnight in or at the side of the yard waiting to drop in or collect .
You are more likely to do a deal on a return back N from La Rague a lot of stuff arrives from UK
La Napoule 20 min walk -station for train to Nice ---airport

That's great. La Rague sounds like the best option, especially as the nearer to Nice works out a bit better for me.

Bonjour
For getting to Nice airport from La Rague you have a few options. You can get a train from the local station direct to Nice Ville . The station at Nice is away from the sea front so you would need to take a cab. There is no train stop at the airport . Airport runs are the cabbies main business and I hear they are not cheap sometime charging 40 euros. We had chaos on the roads here last summer when the cabbies protested against cab finding apps taking their business. Alternately you could get off the train in Cannes . Come out of the station look to your right you will see a store called Monoprix, go down past that and you come to Rue D'Antibes the main shopping street. Follow that to the right and you come to the bus station. There in front of the Town Hall you can get a bus direct to the airport . It runs every 30 mins and is very efficient. You could take a cab from Cannes too, that would be about 90 - 100 euro. I am not sure if you can get a taxi at La Napoule.
Cheers Mick

Mick is almost right but the stopping train (and it'll need to be a stopper if you're getting on at Mandelieu/La Napoule, or Theoule-Sur-Mer which is actually a few minutes nearer La Rague) also stops at Nice St Augustin from where it is about a 10-15 minute signposted walk to the airport. Actual time depends on whether you want terminal 1 or 2.

If you lift out at La Rague, say hello to my boat which is on the end of the pier absolutely opposite the lifting dock.

I would take a different approach. Contact the transport companies to find out when and where they are delivering a boat to a Med port and negotiate for a cheaper return trip.

I'll check with the transport companies; it seems from what has been said that many come to La Rague, so that still might turn out to be the best option. I can then even say hello to Twister_Ken's boat.

I live in La Napoule - if you want the number of a very reliable taxi driver who can take you back to Nice airport for €100 send me pm.

I would also second La Rague as a good option - I lift my own boat there. If you need any numbers for people who can help you with the demasting, let me know too.
