in July I have bought all electronics for my new boat from a UK dealer.
Unfortunotly the Icom M411 VHF, is missing some features that we need here in Belgium and Holland;
1) The unit doesn't have ATIS which is needed here on the canals (automic transmissing of ATIS code every time the talk button is switched on or off)
2) it does not have VHF CH31, this is the marina channel in Holland.
So this VHF unit is only usefull in the UK,
All DSC-VHF units sold here locally have this standard fitted
can you give me advice where (a website) I could sell the unit easyly, It is almost new, the DSC nr is not yet programmed inside, and there is still warranty from the UK supplier (MES)
orriginal invoice is available, I will accept any reasonable offer

Bart..... fairly sure that Ch31 can easily be made to appear on your radio via any dealers software
As to the ATIS, this may available already in the internal software, just needs programming your set to enable function.
Has any dealer definately told you it will not do this stuff????
Will find out in morning what the situatation is via Icom UK and will post on here or will PM if you prefer.Fred.

Hey Fred, thanks for your interesting post,
A Belgium dealer told me the same, but I don't want to annoy him with the stuff I didn't buy from him.
I don't have a regular Electronics dealer over here where I can asc.
Going back to MES is another option, I could at least send them a mail and asc them about it,
But the manual doesn't say anything about ATIS, so this made me conclude that it is not included in this type of unit, pls let me know if you know more,
Thank you VERY much for your post

A friend at our marina may be interested if you can give me details and a rough price guide. His is broken and is probly due an update.

Pm if you prefer.

The dealer answered prompt that he could program these features,
Will send the unit back to the dealer for the upgrade
thank you Fred !!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Confirms what the teccies at Herne Bay said this morning.Would have been suprised,to put it mildly,if any Icom stuff was below par in that respect.Although not the absolute cheapest on the market it is good stuff.
A basic Icom marine radio can be bought for perhaps only £25 more than the plethora of rebadged clones infesting the garish chandlery pages of your favourite boaty magazine.
Plus the backup provided by loads of dealers who think that selling a one decent bit of kit that lasts is preferable to flogging 10 pieces of unrepairable old tot for the same profit.
My radio on board boat is er ....how shall we put this.......an early marine Icom and sitting on the desk in front of me is a 40 year old Icom IC201.Still in regular use.

Just to confirm that the VHF unit has been upgraded to CH31 and ATIS.
The dealer MES did a good job (foc) !!!
Thanks! in case they are reading this

We are off to Belgium and Holland next year - hopefully.

What is all this about ATIS and channel 31 ? Anyone know how I can check if I have ATIS fitted ? The set is a Navman 7100 - 2 years old.

Thanks

Tom
