PLA warn Pageant Skippers

No drinks warning for Pageant Skippers. Who would be drinking going tidal let alone in restricted company ?

They will be in Passage Plan that everybody has to follow.

Special arrangements will be in place with the MCA with breathalysers who will refuse participation to "compromised" skippers.

Some chap with big arms, a PLA branded mask, a block of wood and an axe waiting on Tower Hill?

Nothing ominous .... just that is not normal to have the MCA going around breathalysing leisure skippers.

They will only stop people who are obviously on their beer scooter weaving down the river.

At the PLA public meeting in Putney the other (very cold) night, the new Chief Harbourmaster, who is effectively in charge of the pageant, said that there would be scrutineering for the boats to make sure they 'reached RYA standards' (his words, not mine) and scrutineering on the morning of the pageant for the crew - skipper and nominated mate - to ensure that they are sober!
